Interventions in Boca Raton

Seeing a loved one suffer from substance use disorder, untreated mental illness, or failure to launch can be heartbreaking and immensely stressful. Families often feel powerless over their situation, unaware there is help available. At Full Life Comprehensive Care, our diversely trained team of psychotherapists and case managers specialize in crisis assessment and intervention in South Florida. If you are concerned for the welfare of a loved one, you shouldn’t delay. Intervention is a proven and effective tool to divert risky or unhealthy behavior.

That said, intervention isn’t always the best route. Without proper training or unbiased mediation, interventions can even backfire. That’s why it’s always recommended to consult a licensed professional before attempting an intervention on your own. Interventions can trigger strong emotional reactions, such as anger or panic. Without trained counsel, this can exacerbate a crisis.

What Is Intervention

An intervention is an orchestrated attempt to get someone to seek professional help for a crisis. They usually include family and friends of the individual experiencing crisis, and are most successful when mediated by a professional, known as an interventionist. Interventionists offer unique value, as they have trained experience in interventions and are licensed professionals  that have access to immediate follow-up care. Without an immediate plan of follow-up action, interventions are likely to fail.

Who can benefit from an intervention?

Intervention is used and is effective for a variety of mental health crisis. Most people associate intervention with substance use disorder, but they are commonly used for other mental health disorders or risky behavior.

At Full Life Comprehensive Care, we offer interventions services for people experiencing:

Bipolar disorder & mood disorders

Depression & anxiety

Schizophrenia

Substance use disorder & addictions

Eating disorders

Trauma/PTSD

Adverse adolescent behavior & failure-to-launch

Crisis Associated with developmental disabilities

Even if your loved one refuses treatment during an intervention, there should be an immediate plan of action. Some individuals change their mind and decide to seek treatment after their intervention. That’s why it’s important to have healthy boundaries set in place and outlined during the intervention. A licensed psychotherapist can help your family develop action plans and healthy behaviors, which will help support your loved one going forward, regardless of their decision on whether to seek care.

At Full Life Comprehensive Care, we also offer individual and family therapy. We can help families navigate resources and begin healing after a crisis. If you’d like to learn more about how we can help your family, please give us a call for a free consultation. We can help you understand whether intervention is necessary and what the next steps might look like.
